The Grand Staff

Statement Written: December 2012

Any time I do a big project with a group of photos my main goal is to always do it for another person to make them happy and their happiness gives me joy. However, for the first time I did a project for me that made me happy. I did not realize this till I was mounting my photos onto my mat board. Silly to think it took me that long to realize I was finally doing something for myself instead of pleasing others. At first I want to continue a project that I had done at the beginning of the semester of my boyfriend and his saxophone in black and white. I fell in love with the look of an instrument put into a black and white image to show that classical look. That is how I saw the surface of my project what I want to show.

When I look at these photos I see people, I see myself. Instead of a clarinet I see my geeky sister, a teacher who has never doubted my talent for the piano, and my flute as myself and how it will always be a part of me. If there was no such thing as photography I would only be a musician, but luckily there is and both have given me a way to share each other together in many different ways. The photos show my life, the people who I have met along that journey, and my love for music that will never go away. For other musicians I hope they connect with this piece as I do. These photos might look black and white on the outside, but to me there is color and life to each and everyone.
